Half of these unemployed are long-term unemployed, meaning it’s very unlikely they’ll ever work again.
You could hire 10 million Americans to paint roofs white, or fix leaking sewer and water pipes, or install energy efficient lightbulbs and insulation in every home, or tear down the huge oversupply of houses in places like Detroit, Las Vegas, and Inland California.
Or, you could do nothing, which is the default policy of choice.
Republicans don’t care about the unemployed, and increasingly it seems that Democrats don’t either.
