Quote Of The Day

Friday, September 10th, 2010

President Obama: “We’ve got millions of Muslim Americans, our fellow citizens in this country. They’re going to school with our kids. They’re our neighbors. They’re our friends. They’re our coworkers. And when we start acting as if their religion is somehow offensive, what are we saying to them?”

Gorilla translates: “What the Know Nothing Party is saying to American Muslims is that we will leave no stone unturned to promote our political prospects through division, hatred, racism, false equivalence, and demagoguery. What all Americans should be saying to the Know Nothing Party is fuck you!”

Why Not Hire More Pilots?

Friday, September 10th, 2010

To combat the dangers of pilot fatigue, the FAA will be tweaking various rules and regulations relating to pilot work times that may be outmoded.

The more obvious solution, hiring more pilots so that everyone works fewer hours, never seems to get a mention.

Legacy carriers struggle to make money and senior pilots are very well paid.

Smaller, regional carriers can’t afford to pay much, so they hire less qualified, less experienced pilots.

Everything’s hunky dory until a plane or the economy crashes.

Having more pilots who work and earn less, but are better trained and less prone to fatigue, doesn’t please any of the interests that run the airline industry.

The hopeless conflict of interest in the FAA’s mandate (promoting aviation while protecting the public isn’t sustainable or sensible), means we’ll continue to have crashes involving less experienced pilots working longer hours and prone to fatigue.

Gorilla: “Shared sacrifice? Not in today’s America!”

Some Sense At Last

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Of course denying gays the right to serve in the military is a violation of their rights to free speech, due process and equal protection!

Just as denying gays the right to marry is also a violation of their rights to free speech, due process, and equal protection…

So, by the way, is extraordinary rendition and torture, whether of gays or straights, regardless of whether “state secrets” are used to block due process and equal protection!

One day, future Americans will hopefully laugh at the combination of bigotry, racism, and religion-fueled hatred that currently passes for civil discourse in our country!

Gorilla advises: “But don’t hold your breath!”

The Madness Goes On

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Take one crackpot preacher, worldwide protests, and a demonstration outside a NATO base in Afghanistan

What do you get? Another dead Muslim, more anger, more demos, more dead!

Perhaps our standing in the Muslim world would improve if we stopped occupying Muslim countries and stopped encouraging people like Sarah Palin and Newt Gringich to develop an American Taliban.

Gorilla says: “Or we pretended that a global economy with so much fear and hatred might be worth doing something about!”
