Common Sense On Senseless Wars

We’re Fighting In Afghanistan For Torture!!!

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Apparently, it’s not enough for us to make deals with Gaddafi to kidnap and torture people, we’re tuning people over to the Afghans to torture too!!!

And so this utterly pointless, utterly amoral war continues. We have no exit strategy, no reliable government, no reliable police and army, and we’re complicit yet again in torture.

Gorilla says: “It a clown like Petraeus can leave the place, why can’t America?”

Deadly Month, Deadening War

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Afghanistan in August: more US troops killed than in any month so far of the long, pointless war.

And we intend to continue the pointlessness until at least 2014!

Gorilla says: “The exit strategy does not provide an exit!”

StillLosing@PointlessWar.Biz

Friday, August 19th, 2011

When your enemy can easily attack the British Consulate in the middle of the capital, you’re certainly not winning!

How much longer does this pointless war last? We’ve achieved the original objectives, driving out the Taliban and killing bin Laden.

Yet we continue to stay, fighting a civil war in Afghanistan while the real terrorism, in Pakistan, can be handled more or less by drones and whatever parts of the Pakistani government decide they might help.

Gorilla says: “10 years, a trillion dollars, and we have zero to show for it!”

On The Buses

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

A bad day indeed:

More death and destruction in Afghanistan.

More death and destruction in Israel.

Nobody cares and nobody has a plan to extricate these countries from the folly that is their current misguided leadership.

Gorilla says: “And our President rides around in his bus, proposing nothing and doing nothing!”

Not Winning

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

When the mayor of Kandahar is so easily killed, it’s clear that we’re not winning the future in Afghanistan.

There appears to be no real security in the country and very little progress on establishing a democratic, uncorrupted government people can count on.

Gorilla says: “Wind it up, this show is over!”

Ky Are We

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

We no longer care about Marshal Ky, but he’s very relevant today…

Like Karzai, like Maliki, like various Pakistanis, like Libyan rebels, like Somali non-Islamists, we hope for the best, but we’re still not ready to accept the worst!

Gorilla says: “And so we are, more or less, in stand by idiocy!”

A Failure Departs

Monday, July 18th, 2011

General David Petraeus, off to the CIA, after another surging failure, this time in Afghanistan…

It’s hard to understand why a general with trillions at his disposal cannot defeat a very small, fifth-rate insurgency after 10 years of fighting.

The answers are clear: 1) not enough troops, 2) not enough focus on nation building by and for Afghans, 3) corruption on a massive scale, and 4) funding both sides in a civil war through the drug trade.

What’s more difficult to grasp is why such failures are allowed to continue in office, rather than kicked upstairs to run the not very effective intelligence agencies.

Gorilla says: “10 years of nothing and you get promoted!”

Not Winning, Just Killing

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

In Afghanistan, more civilians have been killed in the past 6 months than at anytime since the US invasion in 2001

And what has been the benefit of all this killing?

Afghanistan remains in a civil war.

The Pentagon remains unable to defeat a small army of lightly armed “insurgents”.

The President remains without a viable exit strategy.

Gorilla says: “All these pointless wars provide neither protection for civilians nor security for the generals!”

Sure It Could Happen Anywhere

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

But it always seems to happen in places we haven’t secured after 10 years of trying!

Of course the idea that the Afghan government is ready to take over on security makes about as much sense as the Taliban deciding to lay down their arms and promote women’s rights.

Yet the Pentagon continues to feed the fantasy that we will win any decade now, because the alternative is that we might finally get serious about an exit strategy.

Gorilla says: “Failure is an orphan across the generations!”
