The Rich Win (Again)

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

What’s the message of yesterday’s elections?

To win, it pays to be rich!

In California, two wealthy ex-businesswomen, neither of whom bothered to vote in elections throughout their adult lives, easily won the Know Nothing nominations for Governor and Senate.

In Arkansas, the Senator from Walmart managed to squeek through in a runoff.

It’s a sad day for America, when only the wealthy or the paranoid right-wing crazy can be nominated by an opposition party that has nothing to say and nothing to offer.

Gorilla asks: “Whoever writes the biggest check wins, what the heck?”

Not Inhaling, Just Voting

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Legalization of marijuana is on the ballot in California!

And who knows whether it will pass, but this is likely the beginning of the end of the War On Drugs.

40 years on, prohibition has been a complete failure. The revenue to be raised and the money to be saved could be staggering (so to speak).

It will also be interesting, if the ballot initiative passes, to see whether Congress, and particularly those in the Know Nothing Party, will decide that the commerce clause is in the Constitution after all and attempt to stop the citizenry from acting too sensibly.

Gorilla says: “Time to see who bangs the gong for states rights!”

Why Vote When You Can Run?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

In which two countries are candidates for important public offices also people who have either never registered to vote or haven’t bothered to vote in years?

Why the United States and Sri Lanka, of course!

In the US, it’s former eBay exec Meg Whitman, currently running for Governor of California.

In Sri Lanka, it’s retired General Sarath Fonseka, currently running for President.

Gorilla thinks: “I’m a fictional character who hasn’t registered to vote or voted in years, therefore as qualified for high office as any CEO or General, so I’m throwing my hat in the ring!”
