Farewell, Clowns!

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

On a day when a great American, Sargent Shriver, died, we’re fortunate indeed to hear that both Holy Joe Lieberman and Kent Conrad will not be standing for reelection!!!

Gorilla says: “Perhaps we’ll now elect some actual Democrats!!!”

Why Our Politics Is So Moronic

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Yet another NY Times love fest for NYC Mayor Bloomberg!

Although he said this week that he’s not going to run for President in 2012, the Times doesn’t seem convinced.

After all, a man as rich as Bloomberg can fund his own campaign and take positions that might appeal to the ever vanishing centrist independent!

Let’s ignore the following facts, since the Times does:

a) No one in today’s Know Nothing Party will ever support a pro-choice candidate from New York. They’ll be happy to give him more tax cuts, though!

b) No one in today’s Democratic Party will ever support a Republican plutocrat from Wall Street, in 2012 or in any other election year you’d care to name.

c) There is zero evidence that “independent” voters are in fact independent; 98% of them will vote for one party or the other or not vote at all, which doesn’t make them centrists!

d) No Labels is nothing more and nothing less than yet another attempt by so-called centrists to gut Social Security and Medicare. There’s no support for this at all and there never will be.

Shorter Beltway Mosque Narrative

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Know Nothings: “We are a racist, xenophobic party that wants its racist, xenophobic base to vote in droves come November!”

Democrats: “We are a dithering, cowardly party that wants to lose in November!”

Gorilla: “In November, nobody will vote on any issue other than the US economy!”

Profiles In Cowardice

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Well, Democratic governors want the Administration to do something about jobs, but the immigration thing might hurt them politically!!

Why? Because they’ve allowed the Know Nothing Party to make standing while brown a crime!

Why is it that the Democratic Party cannot propose a comprehensive immigration program and a serious jobs program? Say once and for all, we’re for this, the other party’s interested only in destroying the country, vote for us and get something done!!!

Because Democratic leaders are cowards, they think being light Know Nothings is a winning strategy and it is: for Republicans!

Gorilla says: “When did being partisan become a curse? As soon as they won!”

In CBO They Trust

Yes, health care reform will reduce the deficit!

And single payer would reduce the deficit even more, but alas that’s not what we’re getting.

Great sighs of relief will be heard on Capitol Hill when the bill finally passes and is signed, but the lessons learned may take a while longer:

1) The President should have gotten this bill through in the first 90 days of his Administration. He wasted a year and nearly got nothing because of his infatuation with nonexistent bipartisanship.

2) The Democratic Party needs to become more cohesive, or it will be pitched out of office. The Blue Dogs and clowns like Stupak are not really Democrats; progressives need to start fielding and electing candidates that are progressive.

3) The Know Nothing Party has nothing to offer the country.

4) The extreme right remains a spent force, not worthy of a moment’s consideration in the political process or in any country that thinks it is civilized.

Gorilla predicts: “There’s a long way to go, but we’ll all be in Medicare by 2025!”

A Wake, But Not Awake

Nihilism is victorious in Massachusetts!

So, what does it mean?

National Democrats need to understand that centrism is as dead as the yellow line and dead dogs LBJ often cited.

Bazarov is making a comeback, he won tonight and is winning, on a platform of fear and anger and doing not much about it.

Alas, there aren’t enough progressives being elected to overcome a pig ignorant country and an enabling mainstream media, each of whom has convinced the voters in a very liberal state that:

1) A country that spends more than double any other on health care, and achieves a life expectancy a bit short of Latvia’s, cannot achieve national health care for all.

2) A country with a majority party in control of both Houses of Congress cannot pass any significant legislation so long as a minority party remains united around vetoing everything.

3) A President who tacked to the center to win election will be a one-termer, precisely because he tacked to the center.

Our country is a depressing country, basically ungovernable, basically bankrupt of ideas and leadership, basically ruined by 35 years of going nowhere in pursuit of not very much.

Gorilla thinks: “The rich get richer, the poor get nothing, and the middle is excised by a gastric band!”

Taxing The Cadillac

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Health care reform? Surely you jest!

This week’s snafu is about taxing so-called Cadillac plans, that is those that cost families and/or employers more than $20,000/year.

It’s a good way to raise money to pay for reform, and it’s a good way to discourage insurance companies from offering expensive plans.

But it’s not popular with labor unions, Know Nothing anti-taxers, and some House Democrats.

What this shows, yet again, is the stupidity of the link between employment and health insurance. Employers get big tax breaks for offering the insurance, while employees are shielded from the true cost of health care.

Rather than simply provide insurance to all, regardless of employment status, via Medicare, a far more cost effective solution, the “debate” at present is essentially about how much profit and how much cherry picking the insurance companies can get away with. It’s certainly not reform.

Gorilla says: “We taxpayers already own Cadillac, so why not take ownership of health insurance plans as well?”

Along The Yellow Line

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Once again, a “centrist” group of Senators is negotiating, this time on health care.

Last time, on the stimulus package, a similar group decided that less stimulus was better, particularly when it came to aid to the states. At the moment, the states’ cumulative deficit approaches $225 billion, and surprise!, lots of state employees are being laid off and the most vulnerable in our society are having their programs cut or eliminated. As a result, unemployment is climbing to double digit levels. Great job, Senators!

Real health care reform is dead.

Democrats simply cannot unite to pass something that includes a public insurance option, effectiveness studies, universal coverage, and an end to the fee-for-service approach. The Blue Dogs are a wholly owned subsidiary of the medical-industrial complex, and the progressives aren’t represented in the Senate. So they’ll each draw a line in the sand and nothing much will get done.

Gorilla says, “The yellow line in the middle of the road precisely matches the color running down the backs of Democrats. It’s a preexisting condition called cowardice”.
