The Blog Catches Up With Ten Tired Topics

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Gorilla’s not been blogging lately, mostly because he’s got nothing more to say about the following topics:

1) GOP intransigence: Now in Year 5.

2) Immigration reform: Never had a chance, will never have a chance until Republicans are booted back to a minority in all three branches of government.

3) ENDA: ditto.

4) Healthcare reform: a big botch, mainly because Medicare for all would have been much easier to implement, so long as your vested interest wasn’t insurance.

5) Chris Christie: he’ll never be the GOP nominee for President.

6) Ken Cuccinelli: Off to the land of grifterhood.

7) Euroland: finally decided to do some of the right thing with interest rates, but still not doing what’s needed: a much higher inflation target, the end of austerity, and a big increase in German consumption.

8) Fed: See Euroland.

9) Hillary Clinton: if she runs, she’ll win, if she doesn’t, Dems will win anyway.

10: Gun Control: see Immigration and ENDA.

Ten Issues Nobody Really Cares About

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

1) Torture: Manning gets 35 years for leaking documents, while torture continues in Guantanamo and around the world.

2) Syria: Chemical weapons or not, nobody’s going to war for Syria.

3) Egypt: a failed state and a successful military dictatorship.

4) Middle East peace: a sham and a fraud, as it’s been most of the last 65 years.

5) The deficit and/or the debt: Both are falling, while those who claim to be worried are only worried about their taxes being raised.

6) Gun Control: puhleeze…

7) Immigration Reform: has never been a realistic possibility in this Congress.

8) Afghanistan and Pakistan: two failed states in a race to the Islamist bottom.

9) North Korea: Maybe the Chinese are slightly worried about massive refugee flows when the regime implodes, but otherwise there’s nothing there.

10) The “rebranding” of the Know Nothing Party: see Middle East peace.

Now That’s It’s Dead

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

To assume immigration reform was ever alive shows the stupidity of conventional wisdom.

The Know Nothings are a racist party, they don’t care who votes against them so long as rich white men provide the cash.

Gorilla says: “Has been that way for the last 50 years!”

Same Old Same Old

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

No, there is not now nor has there ever been in the past 4 years any possibility of comprehensive immigration reform legislation being passed by this Congress.

Hopefully, this failure means that worthless bipartisanship is dead for good!!!

The Know Nothing Party has absolutely zero interest in anything other than building a fence to keep immigrants out, but they pretend their overt racism and endless filibustering can somehow be rebranded.

And, as anyone who knows anything about him, Marco Rubio is a Senator who lied about his own immigrant background and has done so since he first ran for public office.

Gorilla says: “Why waste time on these amoral dolts? Get to the polls and elect Democrats, then you’ll get immigration reform!!!”

Repeat After Gorilla

There is zero chance of a comprehensive immigration bill being passed by this Congress.

What We Do Know About America Today

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

1) The Bush Administration engaged in torture. There’s no doubt about it all, it was morally repugnant, and all involved should be put on trial for war crimes.

2) The gun control “compromise”, which is utter junk, will not pass the Congress of the United States. Nearly 90 Americans will die by gunshot today.

3) The immigration Gang Of Eight “compromise” will not pass the Congress of the United States. We need more immigration, especially high-skilled immigration. Building a fence is insane.

4) Whoever is found responsible for the Boston bombings, we can be sure that no one in law enforcement will be held accountable.

5) Tens of millions of Americans cannot find work, and no one in power is doing a thing about it.

Gorilla says: “It’s not a happy time and this is not a happy country!”

Two True Things

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

1) If you live in a home that contains guns, you’re 5 times more likely to die by being shot.

2) Absolutely nothing will be done legislatively for the next 4 years on the following issues: immigration, gun control, and climate change.

Gorilla says: “The challenge for Americans is to elect a filibuster-proof Democratic majority in the Senate and House, because Democrats represent the only party interested in actually governing!”

Another Plan Going Nowhere

Monday, January 28th, 2013

Happy to be wrong about the new immigration “framework”, but Gorilla thinks this has more or less no chance of passing the House of Representatives.

Some things might be spun off, like the visas for agricultural workers and those with advanced degrees from American universities.

But the larger issue, namely what to do with the 12 million undocumented immigrants and the children of immigrants who were born or brought to this country, seems like a non-starter.

This is because the Know Nothing Party has become essentially a racist, angry old white people’s party, and elected Know Nothing officials have plenty to fear in the way of primary challengers from the far right.

Building fences doesn’t work, stepping up border patrols doesn’t work, what’s needed is a broad parole of those already here, coupled with a Dream Act for their children, and far more green cards for high-skilled workers.

Gorilla says: “We have easily absorbed those already here, we need many more immigrants and much less protectionist restraint of trade by professional organizations!”

A Good Decision

Friday, June 15th, 2012

The President more or less making the Dream Act a reality on his own…

He could do a lot more, like establishing a clear path to citizenship for everyone living in the country who has stayed out of trouble, gotten an education, and/or is working to support a family.

The 12 million illegal immigrants aren’t going anywhere, and it’s long past time to recognize the significant contribution they make to our society.

The Know Nothings will bleat about amnesty, but so long as that party continues its pursuit of racist immigration policies, our President has nothing to lose and everything to gain from the political support of the Latino community.

Gorilla says: “At last, the President does the right thing! We should be encouraging more immigration and more sanity in our immigration policy!”

Dreams Matter

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Dreams matter to many people, including the children of illegal immigrants who’ve lived all their lives in the US and want to give something back, either by graduating from college or joining the military.

So, will the Dream Act pass this week?

It’s the same question for DADT, and the answer will prove interesting.

Hopefully, our country’s legislators will decide that engaging in racism, xenophobia, and homophobia will never again be acceptable in the USA.

Or, we’ll see the racist, amoral, homophobic and misogynistic Know Nothing party demonstrate once and for all that America’s dreams are only for rich, white, and male people.

Gorilla says: “It’s a test of character, we’ll see who passes it!”
