I Meant Nothing, I Lead To Nothing

Defense Secretary Gates discovers a brand new world!

A world wherein losing 2 wars and pretending to be strategically reflective is called out…

Defense Cuts? Puhleeze!

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Don’t make me laugh!

Secretary of Defense Gates overall wants 1% above inflation in budget increases and isn’t proposing anything remotely serious to change the Pentagon’s way of doing business…

Whose air force are we worried about?

Whose navy, outside of Somali pirates and the odd North Korean land mine, seriously threatens the freedom of the seas?

Whose missiles, even if the Pentagon could shoot them down, threaten our way of life?

We currently spend 10 times as much as any other defense establishment in the world, which currently buys us 2 losing wars and no threat at all to fifth-rate terrorists!

What about jobs for the 15 million unemployed who aren’t part of what is bar none the greatest middle class welfare program on the face of the earth?

Pay ‘em each $30,000/year: you’d still have $400 billion left over for national defense and you’d still be spending 8 times as much as anybody else!

Gorilla says: “Our Gates is certainly pearly, and our country will pay for every one of his worthless oysters!”

Pushing The Snooze Bar

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Secretary of Defense Gates sent a memo about Iran back in January, which may or may not have a been a “wake up call” for US policy on Iran.

But what is the policy? Lots of sanctions, no bilateral dialogue, vague threats of military strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, very little international consensus.

Sooner or later, the US will have to sit down with Iran bilaterally and cut a deal. This is clearly what the Russians and Chinese want us to do.

Equally, we’ve got to have a much more coherent policy on nuclear proliferation. You can’t expect anything much on the proliferation issue so long as there’s a different standard for Iran than there is for Israel, Pakistan, India and a host of other countries.

Gorilla says: “Nothing new, nothing serious and nothing to see here!”
