The British Foreign Secretary joins a long line of idiot politicians who do nothing wrong but feel the need to say so.

Apparently, William Hague shared a hotel room during the last election campaign with a senior advisor (male), which led in recent days to Internet rumors about his sexuality.

So, at a press conference in Germany, he announced without irony that indeed he wanted to set the record straight: he wasn’t gay, his wife had had several miscarriages, and these rumors had been painful to them.

Meanwhile, the senior advisor resigned for having caused a distraction by doing nothing.

This sort of silliness seems particularly acute among conservative politicians, whose double standards with regard to sexuality and misogyny seem tailor made to trip them up.

Gorilla warbles: “There’s a small hotel…”
